Between Weikersheim And Rothenburg, The Romantic Road Is Particularily Charming. It Meanders With The Tauber River On One Side And Vineyards High On The Other As It Passes Through Numerous, Small Picturesque Villages. The Town Of Weikersheim Is Known For Its Renaissance Palace (Schloss) And Outstanding Baroque Garden Which Is Among The Best In Germany. During The Summer, The Palace And Gardens Frequently Host Concerts That Are Open To The Public. At The Historic Weikersheim Market Place (Marktplatz) You May Find A Festival, A Specialty Market, Or A Lively Antique- Flea Market. A Glass Of Wine From The Local Vineyards With Lunch In One Of The Outdoor Restaurants That Surrounds The Market Place Is Always Pleasant. If You Want To Get Better Acquainted With The Local Wine, There Are Several Small, Family Run Wineries In The Weikersheim Area That Offer Wine Tasting, More-Or-Less When You Get There. Count Wolfgang Von Hohenlohe Built The Renaissance Palace In 1587. Grandson Siegfried Added The Gateway That Opens To The Market Place Around 1680. The Baroque Gardens And Orangery Were Added In The Early 1700's. Don't Miss The Rittersaal (Knights Hall ) With Its Original (Circa 1600) 3-D Stucco Elephant. The Artist Spent Six Years Working On The Palace As His Sentence For Murdering The Palace Alchemist. An Exhibit Of Alchemy Devices Is Open To The Public. The Schlossgarten (Palace Gardens) Are Among The Best In Germany, Featuring Fountains, Statues, Flowers, And Pleasant Walkways. The Orangery Represents Baroque Architecture At Its Merry Best (You Can Have Your Wedding Reception In The Orangery). The Market PlaceThe Market Place Is Surrounded By The Entryway To The Palace On The West (1680), The Tauberländer Dorfmuseum (Museum Of Tauber Region Villages ) On The North (1712), Saint George Church On The East (1419-1715), And The Rathaus (Town Hall) On The South (1711). Several Outdoor Cafe-Restaurants Connect The Sights. The Large Fountain Located In The Middle Of The Marktplatz (1768) Completes The Charm. All The Cafes On The Market Place Are Pleasant And Reasonably Priced. The Stone Benches Cut Into The Church's Outer Wall Are Also A Great Place To Rest And Absorb The Afternoon Sun. Karlsberg Nature ParkLocated On The Top Of A Hill Overlooking Weikersheim, Karlsberg Nature Park Is A Great Place To Explore Or Have A Picnic. There Are Several Hiking Trails Amongst The Trees And Plenty Of Free Running Wild Boar And Deer. The Yellow Pavilions Date From 1708. The Former Küchen Und Kavaliersbau Pavilion Today Hosts The Forest Museum. It Features The History Of Hunting And Forestry From Feudal To Modern Times. The Southern-most Baroque Pavilion Was Renovated In 1742 And Today Hosts A Unique Restaurant (Das Gelbe Haus) That Is Open To The Public. The 3-D Painting Of The Interior Is Worth Seeing. The Whole Park Is Surrounded By A Long, 250 Year Old Wall Made Of River Stones. A Portion Of The Planet Trail With Several Of The Nine, Night Sky Observation Points Runs Together With The Main-Donau Hiking Trail Along The Northern Wall. You Can Enter Karlsberg From Two Locations, The Gate On The North Side Just Above The Small Observatory And From Das Gelbe Haus On The Hill's South Side, Above The Vineyards.

Röttingen RathausThe Baroque Town Hall (1750) Surrounded By Half-Timbered Houses Is Photo Ready. Several Towers And Parts Of The Old Wall (Circa 1640) Remain Which Make For An Interesting Short Walk On The Path That Circles The Town. With A Little Effort You Can Find Most Of The 30 Sundials. For A Longer Walk, Take The Archaeological Hiking Trail And Explore The Giant Grave Mounds And Remnants Of Celtic Fortifications North Of The Town. Bergkirche (Mountain Church) The Peaceful Bergkirche Is Located In A Quiet Woods High Above The Town Of Laundenbach. Started In 1412 And Restored After The Thirty Years War In The 1650s, It Features An Outstanding Medieval Doorway And Several Treasures Inside. You Will Find The 15 Century Mary Holding Christ After The Cross, Carvings Of The Three Kings From The Riemenschneider School, And The Exquisite Marble And Alabaster Coffin (1658) Containing The Heart Of Graf Melchior Von Hatzfeld Who Supported The Bergkirche Generously In Life. After Exploring The Church And Surrounding Woods You May Wish To Relax At The Small, Pleasant Outdoor Cafe Adjoining The Church. From Laudenbach, You Can Get To The Church By Foot Or By Car. Cross The Little Bridge Over The Vorbach Stream And Pause At The Fountain Built Into The Hillside, To The Right Is The Foot Path, To The Left Is The Road. Laudenbach Features A Ancient Small Castle, Town Church, Round Tower From The Middle Ages, A Good Country Restaurant, And A World-Class Sculpturer. Less Than 1½ Kilometers South Is A Medieval Bridge Over The Vorbach Stream At The Entrance To Haagen. Along The Road To Haagen You Can See Up Close The Unusual Rows Of Stones Running Up The Hills Between The Vineyards.
